Cribbage scoring with verified examples

How fifteens, pairs, runs, flushes, nobs, heels and the canonical 29-point hand are counted.

Fifteens, pairs and runs

Every subset totaling 15 scores two, so one card can belong to several separate fifteens. Every pair scores two. Only longest runs score, including multiplicity created by duplicate ranks. Pegline lists each contributing card group rather than showing an unexplained total.

Flushes, nobs and heels

An ordinary hand with four matching suits scores four even when the starter differs; a matching starter makes five. The crib scores no four-card flush and needs all five cards in one suit. Nobs is one for a Jack matching the starter’s suit. Heels is two to the dealer when the starter itself is a Jack.

The 29-point hand

The verified maximum is 5♣ 5♦ 5♥ J♠ with starter 5♠. Eight distinct fifteens score 16, six pairs score 12 and nobs scores 1, totaling 29. The cards are a regression fixture in the same scorer used by the game, Coach and restore.
